NYC foodie influencers have changed the dining industry. In the past, established writers at The New York Times and The New Yorker had heavy influence over the dining culture in New York City. These days, millennials are listening to the new food critics — foodies.

Whether they blog, write reviews on Yelp or Google or post their favorite flicks on Instagram, these influencers are shaping new habits in the dining culture in New York City and the world.

What is a Foodie?

Being a foodie is more than just eating food all of the time. There are certain things every foodie should know. Foodies understand cooking styles and they are also aware of ingredients used in certain dishes and can possibly advise others on healthier options. A foodie will have above average information on types of cuisine, the chefs and the processes involved in preparing dishes.

Foodies are also extremely interested in eating good food. They seek out the best restaurants and when they find a restaurant they like, they want to play a role in seeing it succeed. There are a number of people who claim to be foodies who are not knowledgeable about cooking, or any specific type of cuisine and simply like to eat.

NYC Foodie Influencers

Food bloggers were some of the first digital influencers in the internet age. They took to blogs, uploaded photos and even shared recipes. These food bloggers expanded over time, they took their blogging to video and started vlogging on Youtube. Many successful food bloggers have made careers from their food passions.

Yelp Elite

Yelp is known for its great reviews on businesses. However, there are some reviewers who stand out, they are known as Yelp Elite. Who or what is a Yelp Elite? Christy, a photographer explains some of the criteria about the elite reviewers saying “They write quality reviews, they take photos, they write tips, they create lists…”

According to Yelp, these are reviewers who have the best profiles, write the most accurate reviews and have a high social standing in the Yelp community.

Instagram Food Influencers

Restaurants love Instagram foodies. Unlike Yelp, where a negative review can severely hurt growth, Instagram’s foodies actually help businesses grow. One chef explained to Eater that Yelp reviews were often negative, and Instagram was primarily positive.

Foodies and Silky Kitchen

One of the things that attract foodies are exploring something unknown. They want to try cuisines that others don’t know about and they also want to educate people in their social network.

Foodies will love Silky Kitchen, especially if they enjoy regional Chinese food. Americans want the authentic Chinese food their friends and classmates enjoy. These days, egg rolls won’t cut it.

Currently, the most popular Chinese cuisine in New York City is Sichuan food. New Yorkers enjoy the rich spice and zest found in these dishes. Eater magazine reported that there were almost 100 of these restaurants in 2019.

So what’s next?

Foodies like everything new. It’s only a matter of time before foodies change their preferences for the even hotter, spicier and tastier food from Hunan. Even Eater magazine recognizes that Hunan food is hotter.

Silky Kitchen is offering something that no other restaurant has. GAI MA 盖码! This is actually slang, only used in Hunan. It means “toppings” and Silky Kitchen provides noodles, with a wide variety of colorful toppings. Foodies and influencers will love taking pics of our delicious dishes.
